The difference between single-edge and double-edge hatchets
- The end of single-edge hatchets is thin and sharp, making them suited to cutting and shaving.
- The end of double-edge hatchets is thick and durable, making them suited to chopping wood and pruning.

If a single-edge hatchet is used to chop wood, the blade may be easily nicked, and the wood will not be chopped cleanly. And if it is used for pruning, the blade may get stuck in the trunk and damage the tree.
Types of hatchets
- Agriculture and horticulture use hatchets can be used to fell trees, trim branches, and chop wood.
Small hatchets are often used in mountain climbing, hiking, and other leisure activities.
In urban areas, hatchets are often used for carving and arranging lumber. The hatchet is an all-purpose cutting tool.
